Special Conditions

• For safety reasons the traffic rules of Norway states that pedestrians should use the left hand side
of the road. This applies to all WOC 2010 competitions except the Sprint Final, where special
permission has been granted by the authorities. Directions given by the Organiser on road crossings
and the use of public roads must be respected.

• The qualification and the final race of the WOC 2010 Sprint competition will be held on the same

• The Sprint Final will be followed by the WOC 2010 Opening Ceremony held at the City Square in the
centre of Trondheim.

• A forking system will be used in the Long Distance Final.

• In the Long Distance and Middle Distance Finals there will be map exchange.

• Start interval for Long Distance Final will be 2 minutes, according to the 2009 Rules.

• For Sprint Qualification, Middle Qualification and Final, Long Distance Qualification and Final, teams
will not be allowed to drive to the start using their own cars. The bus service provided by WOC 2010
is compulsory for all athletes and coaches.

• At the qualification races for Long and Middle Distance the organiser will have tents for the
athletes. It will also be possible for the teams to bring their own tents to the finish arena.

• At the remaining races (Sprint Qualification and Final, Long Distance Final, Middle Distance Final
and the Relay) it will not be possible for the teams to bring their own tents to the finish arena.

Classes and rules

The Competition Rules for IOF Foot Orienteering Events (version valid from 1 July 2008) shall be applied to participation in World Orienteering Championships 2010:

  • There is one class for women and one for men. There are no age restrictions.

Final Entry for WOC – athletes and coaches

Final Entry of WOC teams (athletes and coaches) must be submitted by 1st August 2010. The form can be downloaded here. The Entry Form should be submitted with passport size photos.

Accomodation for athletes and team leaders

WOC2010 has made block reservations at several hotels in Trondheim. All booking of accommodation at these hotels shall be made through the WOC secretariat.

The following hotels are reserved for WOC athletes and team leaders:

All the hotels have a standard of business and conference hotels. Breakfast is included.

In addition, accommodation in school classrooms/gymnasiums is offered. Mattress is provided. Breakfast may be purchased at the schools for NOK 50.

The WOC2010 organiser will do the utmost to find accommodation that complies with the requirements of each national team. However, the organiser reserves the right to move reservations from one category to the next, according to availability of rooms. The teams will be notified about this at the earliest convenience.

Payment and cancellation policy

Hotel reservations must be paid in advance. Around 20 April 2010 we will invoice each federation for the hotels. Deadline for payment is 10 May 2010. Reservations that are not paid within this date will be annulled.

In the case of cancellations after 10 May, 50% of the amount will be refunded. In the case of cancellations after 20 June, there will be no refunds.
